Have you ever just felt so overwhelmed and felt like the world was so heavy on your shoulders? Like your mind just has everything and every problem on your mind? I am definitely going through this right now. I recently had my fourth child and it has been nothing but complete chaos since. My life has not been back on the right track in a long time and I feel like I am struggling to get it back straight forward.
Having a new baby is always a new experience no matter how many times you have been through the process. This is the first time that I have had to do almost everything by myself. My mother helped with my 3 older kids getting them back and forth to school while I recovered but after 6:00p.m. it was all me and my four. I love all my kids but it still can be overwhelming when you are extremely tired from waking up every 2-3 hours at night and still having to wake up early mornings to get kids ready. And on top of doing all of that you have to allow your body the proper rest to heal so you don’t relapse.
What makes a change?
Today I was just going through a full mind overload. So what did I do? I sat here and made a list of everything I have on my mind while rocking my 3 week old daughter back to sleep. Luckily the other kids were already sleep or in bed so I could do this without many distractions. Night time is the only time that I have to just take a minute and breathe. The list continues to grow and I felt like this was not enough and I should share this situation. You never know who may be going through something.
Could it be postpartum depression? Who knows just yet. I do know I have to do whatever it takes to get myself back on track mentally so that I can be able to put my best foot forward for these little ones that I have depending on me. Once I wrote the entire list out, I then put it in separate categories so that I see my focus on specific items. It is like this information must be thoroughly reviewed and put into steps to get them accomplished by importance and deadline. So anytime you are feeling overwhelmed with a mind overload just use the following steps to get everything out and just work through everything slowly. Rome was not built in a day and even though we try to be, we cannot always be superwoman.
Steps to do:
- Make a list of everything that is on your mind
- Categorize the items
- Put them in order by importance
- Place a deadline on each item
- Hold yourself accountable
- Do IT!
Make it a Habit
Once you get on an everyday push doing this, anything is possible. Taking things one day at a time is always the best way to approach to making things right. You will always feel overwhelmed if you do not take the time to dump everything from your mind. Find out what day of the week works for you to get everything out of your mind. For me it is Fridays so I can look at what I wanted to do that I did not get to complete that week. This will give you a view of what all you have accomplished. Try it and see how it works for you!
